ZAFER • The power of CULTURAL EXCHANGE

A story inspired by our journey to Istanbul, where people from different cultures come together in the famous Hagia Sophia, interact, and exchange their cultural customs, ideas, and traditions. The performance is a rich mix of cultural elements and the emergence of new, hybrid forms. The paths of a migrant and a refugee cross, showcasing how different cultures merge into a new, shared culture.

ZAFER IN BRIEF

IN BRIEF

THE PERFORMANCE

Zafer is a dynamic urban dance show about embracing your heritage and being open to diverse cultures.

The audience is guided from Istanbul's bazaars to Africa's markets and Western street culture, blending dance, music, video, and spoken word into a cultural bridge.

Meet characters like Ahmet, Elena, and Kofi, whose paths cross and find a deep connection through sharing traditions.

The Message

The message is: appreciate your cultural roots and be open to others. This is how we bridge differences and celebrate diversity.

Zafer combines tradition, music, spoken word, visual arts, and dance to create meaningful moments.

'Zafer' means 'victory' in Turkish. True victory is being proud of your culture and open to others.

The Story in Dance

The dance tells the story of Ahmet, a carpet seller from Istanbul, on his journey from East to West, encountering various cultures and traditions.

He is welcomed everywhere until he is seen as a stranger in the West. He meets the refugee Solomon and realizes the value of his roots and those of others.

This insight completes his journey: he opens a carpet shop, weaving his experiences and lessons into new carpets.
